„Being active in the climate movement is not only necessary, it also allows you to meet great people and enables you to grow.“ Alexandra, Game On! young climate ambassador
Activism is the most any one of us can do for solving the climate crisis – this was one of the main mottos of an activisation event organised by our Game On! young climate ambassador Alexandra.
Alexandra, a 15 year old student, brought together great speakers for a programme that filled the whole audience at Hidepark venue in Nitra – the capital of a coal-mining region in Slovakia.
To open the event climatologist Jozef Pecho was given the uneasy task to introduce the sobering facts about the situation we are in. Current climate change is the fastest in the history of the planet. The atmosphere is warming 4 times faster than the biosphere is able to adapt to. The speed of this change is already bringing unprecentented challenges for nature and human societies alike.
Solving this problem is the greatest challenge humanity has ever faced and it will be a tough one. To look on the bright side, a crisis inevitably means change and it creates opportunities to make it a positive one. If we manage to stear the wheel in the right direction we can create a healthier, sustainable and more just world. During a fruitful discussion the speakers Katarína Juríkova from Greenpeace, Marta Fandlová EU Climate Pact ambassador, MEP Michal Wiezik and greenfluencer Michal Sabo invited people to be at the forefront of this transition.
The day was closed by an inspiring discussion of young climate ambassadors from the Game On! project who discussed their motivations for joining the programme and what drives them to be active in the climate movement.
