"Wetlands are suffering the effects of drainage and rising drought tendencies, leading to biodiversity threats. Our civil initiatives aim to bring the attention to these fragile ecosystems, which hold huge amounts of carbon."

Dina Sirakova is a master in ecology, who researched the influence of climate change on wetlands. Her field work was in a Natura 2000 protected area in the vicinity of Sofia - Dolni Bogrov. After graduation, she initiated a cleaning activity in this area, as during her research she was disappointed to find out the area was very much neglected and turned into an unregulated landfill. This activity will be continuing and is gathering more and more support, thus we hope to find a solution and furthermore, demonstrate how Natura 2000 areas can be beneficial for the society.
